Ideal Aviation is a full service fixed base operator (FBO) that has been serving pilots and passengers at St. Louis Downtown Airport (KCPS) since 1983. The FBO occupies 4 hangars totaling over 77,000 square feet. Ideal provides fuel, maintenance, flight training, aircraft rental, and storage to resident and transient pilots.
Bill Macon acquired Ideal in late 2011, and it has quickly become the fastest growing FBO in the St. Louis region. The facility was completely remodeled in 2012, including updated pilots’ lounges, flight planning areas, and meeting areas. But what really sets Ideal apart from the crowd is their unwavering commitment to first class customer service.
Macon’s background is in manufacturing, but he comes from a family with a long history of aviation in St. Louis. In the 1930s and ‘40s Macon’s family owned Von Hoffmann Aircraft Corporation and Von Hoffmann Flying School. Major Albert Lambert (for whom Lambert International Airport is named) was president of the company in its early days. Macon’s mother obtained her pilot’s license in 1943, just past her 18th birthday. She reveled flying her Stinson during her days at Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri, often taking friends on weekend outings to St. Louis and beyond.
Macon earned his pilot’s license in 2013 and says, “This is a great opportunity for me to combine business with something I’m passionate about!”
